Dysart meets most of AIMS in 2008

The 2008 AIMS results are in, and Dysart Unified School District schools show an overall increase in student achievement in mathematics and reading. 

AIMS writing scores were lower across the state in 2008, however, Dysart students continued to exceed the state average in all writing categories. 

An analysis of the AIMS achievement data from 2004-2008 demonstrates a sustained effort to raise student achievement within the district. 

Every grade level has seen an improvement in achievement in mathematics, reading and writing. Individual grade level results reveal substantial increases in student success.

Sixty percent of students in the eighth grade met or exceeded the standards in mathematics in 2008 as opposed to just 14 percent in 2004. 

This dramatic increase in student achievement is credited to a direct, specific focus upon rigorous curriculum and instruction. 
Seventy-four percent of sophomores met or exceeded the state standards in reading in 2008 compared to 44 percent in 2004.
Additionally, 82 percent of third-grade students met or exceeded the AIMS standards in writing in 2008 compared to 54 percent in 2006.  

Dysart Superintendent Gail Pletnick, who came to DUSD as an assistant superintendent for educational services in 2004, said the increased AIMS scores and ever improving academic program in Dysart can be directly related to the coordinated efforts and dedication of the district's teachers, staff, administrators and the support of the community to raising expectations.

"Our primary goal has been to work together to raise student achievement for all students within the district," Pletnick said. "These achievements reflect an increase in rigorous and relevant instruction provided by our teachers and staff.  We are excited about our students' success and look forward to their continued growth in the future."
