Home care service wins quality award
Nightingale Homecare has been recognized by the Health Services Advisory Group with a Certificate of Leadership Award for surpassing statewide goals in quality improvement.
As part of an initiative to evaluate Home Health Agency Quality Improvement efforts throughout Arizona, HSAG developed the recognition program.
This was a three-year study in which the quality improvement team at Nightingale Homecare along with other area agencies and HSAG worked on monitoring key indicators, which potentially increase home-care patient re-hospitalization.
Nightingale Homecare can be reached at 602-504-1555 or www.ngcare.com

Business petals community unity
Glendale florist Judy Haenel will repeat her annual tradition of giving away thousands of free roses on Sept. 11.
A native of New Orleans, Haenel said, "This year is the thirteenth anniversary of Pass It On Day. We have now designated it as our official annual commemoration of the people and events of 9/11, and have turned it into a celebration of being good neighbors and community members."
Haenel, the owner of The Tulip Tree at 59th Avenue and Bell Road, estimates that by the end of the day 4,000 flowers will have been distributed at no charge.
"We hope that people will come see us because before they go to work, on the way to school, or as they're running their errands. We encourage everyone age 18 and older to come get a dozen roses, and let 11 other people know that you care. If you can't find the words, then let a rose say it for you."
Pass It On is sponsored entirely by Haenel and The Tulip Tree. Free roses will be distributed by The Tulip Tree on Sept. 11 in bunches of a dozen on a first come, first served basis beginning at 7 a.m. and will continue until supplies are exhausted.
The Tulip Tree is on the southwest corner of 59th Avenue and Bell Road. For information, call Haenel at 602-978-3097.

Bashas' banks on caring customers
During August, Bashas' Supermarkets are teaming up with local radio stations and the community at large to hold a statewide food drive. All donations from the drive will benefit local food banks and St. Vincent de Paul.
"The summer is a tough time for us," said Donna Rodgers of United Food Bank. "Our shelves are bare, yet we're seeing requests for food increase due to spiking gas prices and the economy in general. We don't want to turn anyone away, but we have no choice if we don't have food to give them."
Eighty-two Bashas' stores throughout the state will participate in the "Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation" food drive, selling $1 icons at their cash registers until Aug. 31.
The goal of the monthlong food drive is to raise at least $20,000.
