Vistancia's Teen Club helps students head back to school
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Peoria's Vistancia Teen Club worked with community residents last week to donate back-to-school backpacks to the Phoenix Rescue Mission benefiting Valley students in need.
Vistancia is a 7,100-acre master planned community northwest of Lake Pleasant Road and Happy Valley Parkway in north Peoria.
Formed earlier this year, the Vistancia Teen Club consists of 11- to 17-year-old residents wanting to help the community while interacting with neighborhood friends.
In June, the teens donated 420 water bottles to the Phoenix Rescue Mission, joining in the effort to keep less fortunate Valley residents hydrated.
"After delivering the bottles of water to the Phoenix Rescue Mission, the teens really wanted to know how else they could help," said Vistancia Lifestyle Director Monica Hollins. "We found out that this time of year is often difficult for students less fortunate and that a backpack drive would be very beneficial."
In the midst of planning activities and games for Vistancia teens to enjoy, the club is also pursuing other philanthropic opportunities throughout the community. In the works are visits to feed the homeless, help out at Vistancia events and work to keep Vistancia clean.
For information about the community, call 623-933-6233 or visit www.vistancia.com.
